Thanks to a convention with Circolo Didattico di Manerbio we are carrying out a research to find out how the Narrative Format model and the Adventures of Hocus & Lotus can be helpful to immigrant children from all over the world as they learn Italian, adapt to a new school and build their relationship with teachers and other students in a positive way and also as they develop their identity in an adequate way.
This research project is important because we know that the first achievements in primary schools are fundamental for every child: our academic and professional future is built on the first years of schooling and it is crucial to start on the right foot!
Our hypothesis is that an activity which is meaningful from an affective point of view and which is emotionally positive like the acting out of formats performed by teacher and students together, can help children start on the right foot. In order to verify this hypothesis, at the beginning and at the end of the school year we have planned a number of tests for about 50 students – immigrant children and Italian children – first and second grade children who perform the format in Italian and more or less the same number of immigrant students who do not perform this activity.
The results of the first phase of this research will be available by March and the results of the second phase by July.
This research is shared by the whole research team as well as the personnel of the school and it is led by Cristina Marchione, who is writing her PhD thesis on this project, and by Sabine Pirchio, Traute Taeschner and Pasquale Rinaldi.di Manerbio we are carrying out a research to find out how the Narrative Format model and the Adventures of Hocus & Lotus can be helpful to immigrant children from all over the world as they learn Italian, adapt to a new school and build their relationship with teachers and other students in a positive way and also as they develop their identity in an adequate way.
